In dynamic master this switches to the given connection. If the new connection will work stable it will remain. Otherwise an other connection is choose.
In static master it will be switched back after one minute if the master works stable. If the slave connection breaks it will be switched to the master immediately it it will work stable. Otherwise an outer connection is choose.
